Introduction to Garlic:- Garlic is one of the nature’s gift which has excellent health benefits. Though it has pungent flavour, it has sweet health benefits. Garlic has strong smell due to presence of “Allicin” in it. Garlic belongs to the family of “Amaryllidaceae” and genus of “Allium”. Its botanical or scientific name is “Allium sativum L.”. Garlic is closely related to onion family. Garlic is native to the region between the Mediterranean and China and being used as traditional medicine and food seasoning or flavouring agent. The most common used part of plant is “bulb” which is composed of cloves.  Garlic cloves are used for consumption (raw or cooked) or for medicinal purposes. Other parts of the garlic plant such as leaves and flowers on the head are also edible. However, these are milder than garlic bulb. Garlic plant grows up to 4 feet height and produces flowers. Garlic plant is pollinated by bees and other insects.

Home Remedies with Garlic:- The following are some of the natural home remedies which can be prepared with garlic.

Garlic Home Remedies#1: High Blood Sugar and High Cholesterol: Take 1 or 2 fresh raw crushed garlic cloves on empty stomach for few days. It can be taken with water or with glass of milk for few days.

Garlic Home Remedies#2: For Wounds: Garlic juice should be used with distilled water in 1:3 ratios and applied as a lotion.

Garlic Home Remedies#3:  For acne, warts, boils and corns in the foot: crush/ mash the garlic cloves and should apply externally.

Garlic Home Remedies#4: For Earaches:1 tsp of garlic should be boiled  well in 2 tsp of oil. Cool the mixture and filter it. Use the filtered solution as ear drops (1 to 2 drops)

Garlic Home Remedies#5: For intestinal parasites: 3 to 4 garlic cloves should soaked in milk or water for overnight and the liquid should be taken on next day.

Precautions of using Garlic:- Though there are many health benefits of garlic one should be careful before consuming as it has other side effects as well.

  • Asthma patients should avoid garlic consumption as it may have side-effects.
  • Pregnant women should avoid garlic consumption.
  • Do not consume more than 2-3 garlic cloves in a day as it may makes your blood thinner and might cause serious ailments.
  • Avoid consuming of garlic before any surgery.
  • Avoid if you acidity or heart burn problems.
